Make In India: India is the fastest-growing country with rich resources, enormous potentials, and demographic dividends, but Indian resources are not utilized properly. According to the World Bank Publication 2019 "Ease of Doing Business" India ranked 63rd out of 190 countries. It is based on the proportion of points completed on the Make in India initiative's 98-point action plan for business reform. Currently, the top six states are Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal (44.35%).

The DPIIT's public procurement (preference to make in India) orders 2017 was intended to encourage Make In India. According to the preamble of this order, the government of India's policy is to encourage make in India program and promote manufacturing and production of goods and services in India in order to increase income and employment.
According to this order, a class-I local supplier is defined as a supplier or service provider whose goods, services, or works offered for procurement meet the local content requirement of 50% or more. At the time of tender, bidding, or solicitation, the local supplier must provide "self-certification of local content" in the prescribed format. A "self-certification of local content" is a self declaration certificate that ensures a certain percentage of local content. The Make in India Certificate, also known as the MII Certificate.
Government e-Marketplace is an online public procurement platform in India. To promote the Make in India campaign and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, the Government of India has made it mandatory to mention the 'country of origin' on GeM.
GeM has also enabled a provision for indicating the percentage of local content in products.
